Using the Suunto App to create structured workouts

November 07, 2022 — Nico Cartron

Suunto finally allows you to use their app to create structured workouts!
Let's see quickly how it works.

Structured Workouts before

For a long time, Suunto only supported basic workouts (e.g. repeats like 4x 30"/30"), and more recently, with the introduction of SuuntoPlus Guides, they finally allowed creating structured workouts, i.e. a lot more advanced.

I covered SuuntoPlus Guide back in May in this article.

Back then, you had to use 3rd party providers, and I tested (and felt in love) with Intervals.icu.

Now using the Suunto Mobile App!

But for a few weeks now, it's finally possible to create structured workouts straight from the Suunto Mobile App.

I discovered it by accident, when configuring my new Suunto 9 Peak Pro (upcoming article soon :) - when checking the sync status, I saw a "Structured Workouts" section, so I clicked on it and boom there it was!

You can then see your existing workouts, and also create a new one:

You are then asked which kind of workout it is (running in my case), and optionally when you want to train - which means your watch will suggest using the workout on D-Day:

On the next page, you build your workout - nothing unusual here:

  • you create your repetitions,
  • specify the target (distance, time, heart rate, ...),
  • how much time/distance you want for warm up and cool down, etc:

Finally you save it:

And then, when starting a workout, your watch will ask you whether you want to use it:

For the rest, the displays will be the same as any other SuuntoPlus Guide.

Wrap Up

Clean and simple - really, there's nothing more to add, it's easy to use and covers exactly my needs, so super happy with Suunto!
