Firmware update for Suunto 9 Peak Pro: what's new
This got released end of June but I didn't have time to look at it properly before
Suunto updates
A big difference between Garmin and Suunto, in my opinion, is that Garmin
releases a lot more updates to their sport watches.
Suunto does release updates, however they're much less frequent (like one, maybe
two per year) but as time goes, they improve the watch.
This is true for the 9 Peak Pro, which was missing some basic features, and is now getting better (see my past articles e.g. on Intervals training).
What's New
Here's a quick list of what's new with that 2.27.8 update, from the Suunto website:
- Strava live segments on the watch
- I haven't tested it as I'm not using Strava for that (and I think you need a Strava Premium subscription to use this)
Support for two SuuntoPlus sport apps during session
SuuntoPlus sport apps remembered over sessions
- Not sure I like it, but I get why Suunto did it: it makes it easier to use SuuntoPlus, but most of the times, I'd use it for one session and not the session after
- It would be nice to have an option to disable it
- Support for SuuntoPlus sport app settings
- I'm not sure what this is about, I have searched for it in the watch and in the Suunto mobile app, but couldn't find anything
- New weather widget for day weather forecast
- Flashlight function in menu
- Voice guidance through Suunto app
Wrap Up
A nice and welcome update, I'm especially glad about the weather widget.
Let's see how Suunto keep improving their 9 Peak series, hopefully that's gonna be the case and they won't only focus on the Vertical!
