An email from John Buck, author of "Inventing the Future"!
Context
A quick one - a lot has been said about how bad the Internet can be - but as with any technology/topic, there's no clear-cut in how it is used.
I got reminded of this a few days ago as I received an email from John Buck, the author of "Inventing the Future, Bit by Bit" (which I reviewed here).
John thanked me for the review, and since I wrote that, while it is a book packed with many anecdotes, it is not super easy to follow, he told me:
You’re right, it can be tougher than a Solzhenitsyn novel
but I found there was reallly only one way to go.
John also pointed out that he updated the book with more stories on the PowerBook and LaserWriter.
Clear-cut?
"But what's the relationship with the Internet, Nico?" you may ask.
Well, before the Internet, it would have been very hard (even impossible) for a
reader to publish a review of a book, and for an author to reach back to the
reader to thank him.
The Internet allows that - among many other good things.
More books from John!
While checking John's page on books.by, I figured out he had released a new series of books about the History of Editing: Timeline (6 books, from 1850 to 2000 so far). I'll probably order them as the topic is super interesting.
