Yes, Frigidaire is still a thing!
A recent encounter in a hotel in the US...
Frigidaire...
Since I'm young, Frigidaire has always been a synonym for refrigerator, and I knew it was a brand - albeit not that common in France anymore, the only time I recall seing a proper Frigidaire is in a home we rented when on vacation.
Since then, I always assumed that the brand had vanished.
... is still there!
So you can imagine my surprise when seeing a Frigidaire microwave in a hotel in the US this week.
I had 2 initial thoughts:
- "oh, this still exists?"
- "wait, Frigidaire should be a refrigerator, not a microwave!"
Where the brand comes from
As usual, when not sure, I checked on Wikipedia, which indeed has a page for Frigidaire.
And it confirms:
Frigidaire Appliance Company is the American consumer and commercial
home appliances brand subsidiary of multinational company Electrolux.
In fact, the name that I always took as coming from a French origin since I was a teenager, has always been American!
So this explains why it's still there in the US, and also why this is a microwave.
