"Why this sudden increase in blogging, Nico?"

December 20, 2023 — Nico Cartron

Blogging "history"

I used to blog roughly once or maximum twice a week, so between 4 to 8 posts a month.
You may have noticed that this recently increased: in the past months, the number of posts was:

  • July 2023: 10
  • August 2023: 12
  • September 2023: 10
  • October 2023: 14
  • November 2023: 20
  • December 2023: 14 (and writing this as of December, 19!)

What happened?

As part of my daily routine, I'm trying to write for ~15 minutes every day, which means I am coming up with a lot more articles now. It's a good exercise and a "virtuous circle", as the more I do it, the more topics I want to cover - with still the same approach, i.e. I'm doing it both for me (to keep track of things I want to remember) and for others.

Small issue

At some point, when I checked my TO_PUBLISH folder, I had almost 30 articles in my backlog!

What's more, my drafts folder was also fairly packed:

√ website % ls drafts/*.md |wc -l
          24

Granted, not everything in drafts will be finished quickly, but at least a third of those articles will.

Therefore, I increased a bit my posts frequency, as I didn't want such a long queue, and also there are posts that I want to publish as soon as I have finished them, and other which I'm fine publishing a few weeks after they're done.

Moving forward

I am now down to:

√ website % ls FINISHED/*.md |wc -l
      16

That's still too much in my opinion, so I'll keep publishing more often in December, the goal being to start 2024 with a queue of less than 10 articles, and come back to 1 or 2 articles per week.
