Why I love Firefox: its customisability

December 14, 2023 — Nico Cartron

I love the Firefox web browser. I've been using it even before it was called Firefox (Phoenix or Firebird, anyone?).

One of the things I especially like is how easy it is to customise - not necessarily super complex stuff, but things that make my life easier.
(of course, I'm not even mentioning its add-ons, but that goes without saying).

One thing I recently discovered made me want to write the current post:
I'm using extensively my keyboard rather than a mouse/trackpad, and when I was launching a new tab with *Ctrl+T", it always annoyed me that the first results I typed were from DuckDuckGo results, and the ones from my bookmarks would appear after those results, forcing me to use the down arrow a couple of times.

I finally decided to visit Firefox settings, to see whether there was something allowing me to have the results from my bookmarks displayed above DDG results.

And surely enough, when looking for "suggest", I got the

Show search suggestions ahead of browsing history in address bar results

Simply unticking the box fixed my problem!

Wrap Up

I'll bear that in mind in the future: if something annoys me, it's worth having a look at (in that case) Firefox settings to see whether someone thought about it!
