What I carry to work

November 12, 2023 — Nico Cartron

Context

Thanks to Ruben's Blog, I have discovered a few other writters/bloggers.

One of them is Wouter Groeneveld, writing at Brain Baking.

Wouter recently wrote an interesting piece about what he carries to work, and I thought it would be fun to do the same.

In the meantime, Ruben did the same exercise.

Different types of travels

I mostly work from home, but when I travel, I either go to the F5 Paris office, or go to a coworking place where I live.

When traveling abroad (mostly to the US), I'd stay for a few weeks.

In that post, I'll focus on short travels, and will be covering the bags/luggages I use on longer trips in another post.

Daily carry in 2023

While working from the coworking place doesn't require using my laptop on batteries, hhe trip to Paris involves a ~90 minutes journey on a high speed train (French TGV), followed by some public transport (metro then tramway).

Since I work onboard the train, I carry:

  • a Samsonite Pro-Dlx3 backpack I bought almost 10 years ago at an airport (and that replaced my previous dying backpack), which contains:
    • my work MacBook Pro with its charger,
    • a physical notebook with a 4-colors Bic pen,
    • a battery pack.

Don't let the above pictures fool you: even though the backpack looks slim, it can contain a lot - and I made good use of it on numerous flights where I had to bring back some gifts for my kids! :)

This is a pretty short list, but I usually go to the office for 2 days, which means I either carry another luggage, or more often I have a larger backpack or duffel bag with all my stuff (which again I'll cover in another post!).
