Thunderbird Calendar - Birthday extension - yum!

November 19, 2023 — Nico Cartron

Context

As I have moved my personal laptop from a MacBook Pro to a Lenovo T440p running FreeBSD, I am slowly tweaking it to mimick what I am used to.

Displaying birthdays in my calendar is one of the important things for me, and I was missing it in Thunderbird.

So I thought "hey, there must exist an extension for that!".
And surely enough, there is such a thing - called Birthday Calendar.

Installation and configuration

Installing it is as easy as any other Thunderbird extension.
The nice thing is that you can select which of your address book(s) you want the extension to use to create the new birthday calendar.

Because yes, it creates its own read-only calendar, which you can enable/disable as any other calendar:

Result

Birthdays are displayed as All-day events, and the thing I like even more is that it even tells you the age of each person whose birthday it is:

Wrap Up

A short post but I like keeping track of my "migration" to a full FreeBSD laptop!
