Sailfish OS 4.5.0.21: Android Support fixes and Browser improvements

July 15, 2023 — Nico Cartron

Yet another SFOS? And in July?

Yup, the last update (4.5.0.19) was released on March 20, 2023. Usually, Jolla does not release anything during Summer time, so this release caught me (and other sailors) off guard!

A rather nice surprise, especially since it makes SFOS even better - no new features (hence the .19 to .21), but rather stability improvements.

What changed

Browser improvements

  • Fix Browser crash when using media codecs (video or audio)
    • I have made some tests, and indeed the browser is a lot more stable; I didn't manage to make it crash, and others on the SFOS forum also confirm this.

Android App Support fixes

  • Fix Elements and other other Android apps using RealmDB to work inside the container
    • I didn't encounter this issue as I'm not using Elements or Android apps using RealmDB, but I'd encourage you to read this post on the SFOS forum where user nekron explains how he fixed the issue, this is a very good example of community support!

Others

  • Provide better control over sensor data rate selection
  • Fix recurring Calendar event alarms
  • Fix tile service urls 3 for QtLocation
  • Fix sharing a web site via email
    • This was a bit annoying, I'm glad it's back!
  • Fix notification popups not getting stuck when triggering an action
  • Add support for array of string-variant 2 key-value pairs to D-Bus QML bindings.

Wrap Up

A rather short article, as this is after all a minor Sailfish OS version (or even a patch!), but as I said before, this is a welcome one!
