Resolutions for 2025

I usually do not adopt new resolutions when a new year starts, I'd rather call it "changing habits" or "improving".
So here we go, in no specific order:
- Stop using Twitter/X: I recently moved to Mastodon, and I like it so far
- Stop using Strava:
- this one is a bit of a struggle, as I'm also using it to follow friends
- I initially wanted to stop using it entirely, but I'm now considering posting only the interesting activities I'm doing (e.g., a race)
- I have already stopped uploading non-running activities (such as GPP sessions or football with the kids)
- I was also using Strava to keep track of how long I had been using my running shoes - I fixed that by moving this to the excellent RunGap, since it supports that feature as well.
- Delete the accounts on the platforms I don't use anymore, e.g. SmashRun
- Get back to Sailfish OS as my main personal phone
- So far I have always used a single phone, both for personal and professional use
- My current company enforces strong security via MDM, which only works on iOS and Android, so I had to switch to an iPhone as main phone
- I will fix this by having a dedicated number for my professional usage
- Decrease notifications interruptions:
- I did that already in 2024, by setting my work MacBook to "focus mode" all the time, and having a very few apps that can trigger a notification
- I did the same with my work iPhone
- Use the Pomodoro Technique more:
- My first tries with the Firefox plugin are conclusive: this forces me to focus a lot more
- I have been using Open-Pomodoro CLI for 2 weeks, and this is very pleasant to use. As the name suggests, it's a CLI-based Pomodoro tool. I wrote a Shell script to manage my Pomodoros throughout the day, and also send Telegram push notifications when a Pomodoro is over (Open-Pomodoro CLI supports hooks).
- Reduce my mental load: everyone deals with mental load in their daily life,
and my wife's mental load is a lot bigger than mine. That does not mean I
shouldn't try to reduce it, and here's how:
- rather than trying to fix things right away, I'm using TaskWarrior a lot more, to remind me of things
- when dealing with toxic persons, I'm now giving up on fighting about non-important things, and am just ignoring those things entirely - this really helps
