Reflecting on the Archive's albums I haven't listened to that much

April 22, 2025 — Nico Cartron

The latest blog posts on Archive (here and here) made me realise that there's a whole period where I didn't really get into some of their albums.

This includes 4 albums:

  • With Us Until You're Dead (2012): of the 4 albums, that's the one I listened to the most (see below), I clearly remember buying it on the iTunes store, and listened to it while on a business trip to Germany
  • Axiom (2014)
  • Restriction (2015)
  • The False Foundation (2016): I don't even remember its release, and this is confirmed below by the (very) low number of songs I like from that album.

Songs I like

Alright, so to confirm my feelings, I listened again to the 4 albums, and made a list of the songs I actually like - and as you can see, the list is not really long.

  • With Us Until Your Dead album:
    • Wiped Out: wow, this intro and Pollard's voice! "Watch out My angel..."
    • Interlace
    • Conflict
  • Axiom album: it has only 7 songs, and 2 stand out for me:
    • Distorted Angels
    • The Noise of Flames Crashing: this is one of those songs that gives me goosebumps - "A game grotesque / Felt such things / A walk / Beautiful within"
  • Restriction album:
    • End of Our Days
    • Half Built Houses
    • Crushed
    • Black and Blue
  • The False Foundation album:
    • The False Foundation

Wrap Up

There we go - this does not mean that those albums are bad - after all, preferences are personal - but I'm glad that Call to Arms & Angels got released to break this cycle for me!
