My top 10 songs from Archive

February 29, 2024 — Nico Cartron

Reasoning

I'm once again doing this mostly for myself, to keep track of my taste at a specific point in time.

Archive is the band still in activity which I've been listening to for the longest time (circa 1996), so I thought it would be interesting to have such an exercise.

With 11 Studio albums, that's a lot of songs - but as I explained in other articles here or here, I "skipped" some albums, making it things a bit easier ;)

The Rules

  • I won't put a reason for the rank of each song,
  • I'll do it in reverse-order, all the way up to my favorite song.

The List

So here we go:

10 - Take My Head (Take My Head)
9 - The Noise of Flames Crashing (Axiom)
8 - Super 8 (Super 8)
7 - Finding It So Hard (You All Look the Same to Me)
6 - Daytime Coma (Call to Arms & Angels)
5 - Again (You All Look the Same to Me)
4 - Lights (Lights)
3 - Londinium (Londinium)
2 - Fuck you (Noise)
1 - Controlling Crowds (Controlling Crowds)

Wrap Up

That's a tough exercise - harder than I thought.

Choosing only 10 songs from ~150 is not easy, and I had to skip some excellent ones as otherwise the list would be 20+ ;)

I need to think about a "strategy" for upcoming articles: either I stick to a list of 10 songs across all the albums of an artist/group, or I choose one song per album.
Either way, it all depends how I want to prioritize things: chosing one song per Archive's album would force me to listen to some albums I barely know (and to be honest, barely enjoy as well).
