Music *day: Archive's You All Look The Same To Me (2002)

March 05, 2025 — Nico Cartron

I recently went to 2 Archive's gigs (see here for the announcement, and I have another article coming up soon).

On the first night, Archive played both Noise (2005) and You All Look The Same To Me (2002), and the latter brought back a lot of memories.

A few things that struck me:

  • I clearly remember my friend Pierre (who has since left France and now lives in Canada) offering me the CD
  • I also remember listening again and again to the CD in our flat in Créteil in 2005, on my Bose speakers, especially "Finding It So Hard"
  • The album's Cover looks so good, like from an American TV Show from the 50's!

With those 2 gigs, I got to listen quite a lot to those albums - even though Archive is clearly one of the artists I listen to very often.

What struck me as well during this gig is that, for a 23 years old album, it aged really well - judge by yourself:

  • Again: "You're tearing me apart [...] You used to lift me up... Now you get me down [...] If I was to walk away... From you my love... Could I laugh again?"
  • Numb: "You put a hope through me"...
  • Meon
  • Finding It So Hard: 15 minutes and still so good, I'm not sure a song so long could be released nowadays

Even Seamless, in the middle of the album, with no lyrics, fits perfectly.
