Moving to a PeakDesign backpack
Context
As I hinted a few months ago in the article about the travel bags I'm using, I had an eye on a PeakDesign 45L Travel Backpack.
I resisted buying as I was not travelling that much these days, but in fact I travelled a bit more, between my professional trips and the trail races I was running - so it was worth considering a move!
The bag
I went for a rather boring conventional black model, as I would be using
also for work - but I'm still carrying my orange umbrella in one of the side
pockets!
The good
- Compared with my Aer Travel Pack 2, the PeakDesign looks a lot nicer and less "rugged", see by yourself:

- There's a lot more pockets inside, making it super easy to organise things
- The shoulder straps can be easily hidden, and the bag carried as a regular duffel, making it nicer for work
- I find the bag a lot more comfortable when carrying it on my back, even when heavily loaded
The less good
- There's no specific pocket for the laptop, you need to open the main pocket to
access your laptop
- I initially thought it was a bit annoying
- but you can access it by opening just the part needed - you don't need to open it all:

- I'm also missing a dedicated, external-facing pocket for my toiletry bag, as I
had on my Aer
- it's still possible to place it in the first large pocket, but then it's shared among all the other things
Wrap Up
I've been using the Travel Backpack for a few months, and overall I'm really
pleased with it.
Granted, there's a few things I'm missing compared with my Aer bag, but they're
largely compensated by other nice features of the PeakDesign, such as the
comfort or the hideable shoulder straps.
In any case, I still have my other bags, and I will still use them depending on the kind of travels/duration I'm dealing with!
