Jokes in Michael W Lucas' tech books

September 02, 2025 — Nico Cartron

I am reading "Run Your Own Mail Server" from Michael W Lucas, which I supported on MWL's kickstarter when it launched.

I received it a while ago but didn't take the time to read it before.

It's, as usual, very well written and nice to read, starting with the basics and gradually adding stuff.

One thing that struck me though, is the very fun touches that MWL adds - I don't think I've laughed when reading any other tech book.

Here's an extract from Chapter 4, talking about Virtual Domains and hash files:

Over drinks one might credibly argue that sqlite is backed by a hash file,
but at that point someone pulls a blaster, the whole bar erupts, and you
have to apologize for the mess.

Thanks, WML, keep doing that!!! <3
