InfiniTime 1.13 - improved heart-rate algorithm and battery life, and more!

July 01, 2023 — Nico Cartron

What's new

New heart-rate processing algorithm

Saying that PineTime's heart-rate processing could be improved was a nice understatement: the reading could be a bit off, and required some time to be processed/shown.

This release improves that thanks to a new processing algorithm, which speeds up the initial reading (6 seconds instead of easily 15 to 20 before), and also those results will be returned more often (every 800 ms).

My initial tests, comparing the PineTime which I wore on right wrist, and my Suunto on left wrist, seem promising.

Power optimizations

The team has done some optimization on the PineTime's power consumption, which more than double its battery life: more than 10 days, compared with 3 to 5 days before.

I haven't tested it but given the team's track record, I think it is safe to assume this is true :)

Weather integration in PineTimeStyle watch face

The PineTimeStyle watch face by Kieran now supports weather information sent by the companion app.

I haven't tested it since Amazfish (Sailfish OS' companion app) does not support that yet.

Other

  • New memory management (heap unification)
    • mostly useful for developers, as it allows having a better overview of the memory usage
  • Bug fix in shake wake
    • there was an issue after sleep in certain positions
  • InfiniSim : New status window
    • The InfiniTime simulator now displays more clearly information such as alarms, battery, brightness or BLE connection

Wrap Up

A much quicker article than usual, but the improvements are mostly "under the hood", so no screenshot or deep testing today!

However, this release once again proves that InfiniTime ages well, that's really good to see!
