I have new running socks!
Context
It's been a while since I bought running socks, and it was starting to show, as most of them were not super comfortable anymore, so it was time to buy new ones!
I bought those socks back in October 2025, so the below article has been written after many runs with them.
New socks
I have been happy with the Sidas insoles I tested recently, so I decided to order 2 pairs of Sidas:
- the T-Free trail: with a big toe separation - similar to what you would find with five-fingers socks or Injinji, but applied just to the big toe.
- the Trail Protect: come with protections at the ankle, heel and toe sections.
Also, I bought one pair of Compressport: the Pro Racing V 4.0 Trail.
Here's the socks boxes with technical details:
and the socks themselves:
What's fun and I just realised after I bought those socks, is that they are each very different from one another;
- the Compressport offers a lot more protection to the feet and goes up to mid-calf,
- the Sidas T-Free is a good compromise to "isolate" the big toe, without having to use five-finger style socks (e.g., Injinji),
- the Sidas Trail Protect has a lower profile but offers more protection.
So without realising it, I chose socks for different use cases.
Verdict
Sidas T-Free trail
What I liked:
- I like the big toe separation, it's a lot easier to put then on, and more comfortable than the Injinji socks I had
- It does a good job at avoiding blisters
- Update January 2026: I bought a second pair of those socks as they really felt great!
Mixed feelings:
- Comfort is OK, although not as good as e.g. the Salomon I had before
- Writing this article a few months after I bought those socks (6 months actually), and I have a hole inside one of the socks :(
Sidas Trail Protect
What I liked:
- Very comfortable,
- The "foot indicator" (L or R to tell you which side it should go) is located inside the sock, making it a lot easier to find (I always struggle to find it!)
Mixed feelings:
- Nothing, really - the Trail Protect are great and each single time I wore them, it was a pleasure.
Compressport Pro Racing V4.0 Trail
What I liked:
- Cushioning is great and I can "feel" the spots where the pads are located - it's not bad at all, just a weird feeling at the beginning but it goes away after a few minutes of running.
Mixed feelings:
- Being a Compressport sock, it is a lot more compressive than the Sidas ones. It is of course by design, so it will require a bit of time for me to get used to it - I usually like more loose socks.
- Update January 2026: After a few more runs, I had blisters when running with the Compressport, so I stopped using them.
Conclusion
After many years using the same socks, I'm glad I decided to buy new ones.
Sidas is a very good brand, so those new socks will probably be my
companions for the time to come!
