Dial-in calls are (still) painful

April 24, 2024 — Nico Cartron

Context

As part of my daily job, I have regular meetings, mostly using Zoom and sometimes Teams.

But yesterday call was a bit different: when I opened up the invitation 5 minutes before the call, I looked for a link to click on, but couldn't find any.

All I could find was:

Please utilize the dial in number and pass code referenced below at the

time of the scheduled meeting

Really? An "old-style" dial-in call??

Summary

I think most of us forgot how it was before:

  • The phone number mentioned in the invitation was a US one, so I had to click on a link to show the dial-in number for France, and type it on my phone,
  • then the voice assistant asked me to enter the 7-digit passcode, which I had to find in the invitation, and of course got wrong 2 times - then press #
  • and finally, enter the meeting

And... how to say that... the audio quality!!! this was really bad, or I think not worse than what we had before, but I got used to cristal-clear discussions, and coming back to something that felt like the 90's was... painful, plain and simple
