Gore-Tex winter bike gloves
The need
I recently replaced my aging mountain bike, as I wanted to get back into it (I'll probably write on it some time soon, but that's not this post's topic).
It's freezing these days where I live, with temperatures between -2 to 5 degrees Celsius (28 to 41 Fahrenheit).
I candidly went out with my running gear, including 3 layers of gloves - using the gloves I wore for running.
And man, what a mistake! Because cycling is very different than running, after a few minutes, I could barely feel my fingers.
That's because:
- while cycling, my hands do not move at all (unlike when running),
- the wind gets directly on your hands.
So it was time for me to buy proper bike gloves!
What I bought
I read a few tests on the Internet, and I went for the Gore-Tex "Infinium Thermo Split" gloves.
See picas:
I initially short-listed a pair of Shimano, but they were close to 100€, when the Gore-Tex ones cost half of it (they were on sale when I bought them!) - so that was an easy choice.
As you can see in the above pictures, their design is a bit special, since they're in between gloves and mittens: the thumb and index have their own space, and the middle, ring and pinky fingers "share" the same space, providing more warm.
Result / Feedback
I just tested them on a quick cold ride, and that clearly makes a huge difference: with the previous rides I did with my running gloves, I had to stop and shorten my outing. That was not the case with those gloves!
