Good to be back at my running club!

August 30, 2023 — Nico Cartron

Yesterday, my local running club was resuming its activities, and I was there to enjoy a cool run (or so I thought) with friends.

I hadn't been there for a while (mid-April I believe), as I had travels for work, and also a trail race early June, then the club season ended early July.

So to say I was eager to be back was clearly an understatement!

When arriving, our coach Daniel told us "folks, today is gonna be an easy one, we're just starting so you guys run easy".

But 3 other runners (Thomas, Tristan and Benjamin) were prep'ing for a half-marathon in a month, so they were aiming for a pretty tough session.
I chatted with my friend Vincent, and we decided to follow Benjamin, who was aiming for a 6x1000m at 4'/km session (Thomas and Tristan were a lot faster).

Vincent ran with Benjamin, and I ran with Olivier (another fellow club runner). Olivier and I stuck to the 4' pace, while Benjamin and Vincent ran slighly faster (3'50).

The first 4 sessions were fairly easy, Olivier was not sure he could do the 2 last ones, so I motivated him for the 5th one, and then when we started the last one, we decided we didn't want Benjamin and Vincent to pass us (since we were running around the track).

In the end, we did it, AND IT FELT GREAT!

2 years ago, I wrote about how having different running sessions is less boring, but definitely, at least for me, running in a club once a week is definitely great - I'm not sure I would have pushed myself like this had I ran alone!
