Feedback on the Remarkable 2 after a few weeks of usage

May 27, 2025 — Nico Cartron

Context

I had been considering buying a tablet paper like the Remarkable or Pine64's PineNote for a long time. I then realised that a few colleagues had a Remarkable and since the PineNote was out of stock on the EU store, I went for a Remarkable 2 (RM2) since I didn't need color and it was cheaper than the Paper Pro.

Usage

I take a lot of notes, mostly for work, but also personally, and therefore I was using physical notebooks and throwing them once they were finished.

The Remarkable 2 brilliantly replaces those notebooks, while allowing me to erase mistakes, move things around, and organise my notes in different notebooks/folders.

I also like being able to sketch things easily - not to mention that the RM "OS" includes many tools useful such as highlighting, the ability to trace straight lines or different shapes (rectangles, circles, ovals, ...)

Replacing the stylus

Even though the Remarkable stylus works fine, I bought a Staedtler Noris digital jumbo 180J stylus, and I prefer it over the RM one: it is more comfortable to use and also the clipper is thinner.

More use cases than I thought

I initially wanted to use the RM2 as a replacement of my physical notebooks, and as noted above, it does a very good job at that.

But since then, I found I can also use it:

  • as a calendar: this does not replace the calendar on my laptop/phone, but more as a way to focus on specific days, and also remember what I did in the past. I'm using for that a single PDF with links per day/month, and find it very useful.
  • as an ePub reader: granted, it won't replace a Kobo or a Kindle, since the RM2 doesn't deal with DRM, but for non-DRM ebooks, it's very nice!
  • as a PDF reader: there's a lot of articles I want to read but can't/don't have time to read immediately, and so far the way I dealt with it was sending a link by email (I tried "read it later" solutions but that did not work for me as I tend to prefer self hosting). Converting an article into a PDF file, and sending it to my RM2 using RCU is a very good compromise for me, and I like it.

Wrap Up

The RM2 comes with a 100 days "test it" period, which allows you to send it back if you're not happy with it.

Needless to say, I kept it and use it daily.

Here's the RM2 in action (in French) while I was preparing my nutrition for my last trail running race:
