Create folders of tabs with Firefox' Tree Style Tab

December 28, 2023 — Nico Cartron

Again, one of those posts I'm writting mostly for myself, but that can be useful to others:

when using Firefox's excellent Tree Style Tab extension, you can create folders of tabs (to group things together), but you cannot do it manually.

It is kind of done automagically for you, and here is the trick (borrowed from this post on Reddit):

  • Open a tab
  • Pin that tab. Go to a web page that has a lot of links.
  • Open at least 2 links from that tab.
  • The 2 links should form under a folder.
    • Click on that folder and uncheck the box that says " Close this tab when there is no more child".
    • You can also rename the folder, by changing the string after "group-tab.html?":

  • And voilĂ ! I use extensively this feature, as it allows me a much cleaner experience, and finding things more easily.
