Chemical Brothers - For That Beautiful Feeling (2023)
Context
I found out about FTBF a few months after its release, somewhere in 2024... but this blog post sat in my drafts folder for way too long - something which I'm fixing now as I am onboard a long flight to the US.
I have been listening to The Chemical Brothers for a while - my first encounter with them was in 1996, when Noel Gallagher from Oasis released "Setting Sun" with them.
I would not "rate" them at the same level as Radiohead or Archive (which are still my 2 preferred bands),
but they're definitely on my list of bands I listen to on a regular basis.
As for gigs, I've been to only one Chemical Brothers concert, in 2018 at Accor
Arena in Paris.
The Album
With 11 songs and a duration of 46 minutes, it's sadly of those "jeez it's way too short" albums (I'm having a hard time with short albums, even for artists I like).
Songs that stand out
- Live Again
- Feels Like I Am Dreaming: a super punchy song, one that it would feel good to dance on during a gig!
Verdict
Overall, it's an OK album - clearly less appealing to me than No Geography (the album before FTBF), and of course numerous albums from The Chemicals like Dig Your Own Hole, Surrender, Push The Button or Further.
Clearly not the album I'm going to when I want to listen to The Chemicals - I think that's because I'm much more used to something with beats and claps, whereas this album feels to me like a long song accompanying an ad for an airline company (e.g. The Darkness That You Fear, or For That Beautiful Feeling).
