Brain Baking's Wouter advice on mediocre books

January 30, 2025 — Nico Cartron

Wouter's 2024 in Books article has this statement at the end:

I have the fealing that I read a lot of mediocre books in 2023. Perhaps my New
Year’s resolution should be to put down the ones I don’t like much faster:
life’s too short. […] As for what to read in 2024—I wrote at the end of 2022
that I have unopened cookbooks patiently waiting to be picked up

This resonated with me: even though most of the books I read last year (and am currently reading) are good, there are a few exceptions, and up until now, I made a point to finish them.

Maybe if I can't get into a book, I should just give up - this is perfectly fine: after all when you don't like something you're eating, you're giving up, or when you don't have a special connection with someone, they won't become your best friend - so why not apply this to books?

I'll try that moving forward - thanks Wouter!
