Best almond croissant ever (outside France) in San Francisco

January 11, 2024 — Nico Cartron

The year was 2017. I was on a business trip in the Bay Area, and staying at a nice hotel in downtown San Francisco (boringly called "Hotel San Francisco", on Bush Street).

The hotel had a very nice breakfast lounge - not huge, as there were 3 tables, but it was very nicely arranged.
Being a small hotel and not a chain, there was no buffet, but only a handful of bakeries, including an almond croissant.

Now, having travelled a lot abroad, my expectations when it comes to bakeries are really, really low.
Whenever I see a "French bakery", especially in the US, I am doubtful and will not necessarily buy from there.

But since that was the only option, and it looked fairly OK, I decided to give it a try. And man did I not regret it! I felt like I was in France, enjoying a proper almond croissant in a very nice bakery.

I was surprised, and when I discussed with the hotel staff, they mentioned that there was indeed a vibrant French community, hence this is why my experience happened :-)

Sadly, I didn't take any pica so you won't be able to enjoy it, but I still remember it 6+ years later!
