A list of the Radiohead gigs I've been to

March 09, 2021 — Nico Cartron

This one's for me - I am a huge Radiohead fan, and have been to quite a few of their gigs, so in this quick article I am listing them all, with possibly some notes from my memory :)

Why?

(As usual, I like to give some background on why I am writing an article).

As stated above, I am a huge Radiohead fan. I really discovered them in 1997, with OK Computer, been to my first gig in 2000 during the Kid A tour, and witnessed and enjoyed their evolution music-wide.

End of last year, I started thinking "I really miss seeing Radiohead live" and thought that it was because of COVID-19, but looking at my calendar, I realised that indeed it had been a while since I last saw them: my last gig was in May 2016, almost 5 years ago đŸ¥²
And according to setlist.fm, Radiohead's last gig was in August 2018 in Philadelphia, PA...

So here we go, a list of gigs, with for some of them either notes or pics, or both :)

(Oh, and since we're at it, I also included Thom Yorke's gigs I've been to - in that case that makes my last gig "only" 2 years old).

2000's

  • Grand Rex, Paris (France) - June 30, 2000
    • My very first RH gig, held in the iconic "Grand Rex"
    • A friend of mine had tickets but I didn't, so I just showed up, hoping to buy one as second hand - which happened (I payed 400 French Francs, which was something back in 2000, especially since I was still a student!)
    • Also bought my very first RH T-Shirt- the mouse with the weird eyes ;)
  • Saint Denis (France) - September 20, 2000
    • The iconic tour with the "blue tents", with Sigur RĂ³s as support act.
  • Amnesiac in Paris, Canal+ Studios, Paris (France) - April 28, 2001
    • I was quite into the Radiohead French fan club (ne pas a.v.a.l.e.r.), and we got invited by Canal+ to a private gig in their Studios, to support the release of Amnesiac.
    • Obviously super intimate, great experience, and I still remember the Ondes Martenot.
  • ThĂ©Ă¢tre Antique, Vaison-la-Romaine (France) - May 28, 2001
    • Another great gig, in an incredible venue
    • And I still remember Colin speaking French near the end of the concert, explaining that they've been asked by the city to stop the gig not too late.
  • South Park, Oxford (England) - July 7, 2001
    • Yet another awesome one - Radiohead playing in their "home town"
    • It was more than a RH gig, it was a festival
    • and btw, I still have the ticket, how cool is that?
  • Arènes de NĂ®mes, NĂ®mes (France) - July 14, 2003
    • First (of many) gigs in this special place
  • Forest National, Vorst (Belgium) - November 11, 2003
  • Heineken Music All, Amsterdam (Netherlands) - August 28, 2006
  • Palais Omnisport de Paris Bercy, Paris (France) - June 9, 2008
  • Palais Omnisport de Paris Bercy, Paris (France) - June 10, 2008
  • Arènes de NĂ®mes, NĂ®mes (France) - June 14, 2008
  • Arènes de NĂ®mes, NĂ®mes (France) - June 15, 2008
  • VĂ½staviÅ¡te, Prague (Czech Republic) - August 23, 2009
    • Probably the most epic gig (along with PoznaÅ„, below)
    • We went with 10 friends, flew to Prague, and then took a bus from Prague to Poland, then a train back to Berlin, where we flew back to Paris.
    • You can still watch it live, thanks to the group of RH fans who created the "Radiohead live in Prague" project (and thanks also to the band who gave the audio tracks).
  • Cytadela, PoznaÅ„ (Poland) - August 25, 2009
    • a vivid memories of waiting hours in the super hot weather
    • to a point that once they opened the doors and we secured our spot, I drank 2 pints of beer straight away!

2010's

  • Festival de NĂ®mes, NĂ®mes (France) - July 10, 2012
  • Festival de NĂ®mes, NĂ®mes (France) - July 11, 2012
    • Back again in NĂ®mes :)
  • O2 Arena, London (England) - October 8, 2012
  • O2 Arena, London (England) - October 9, 2012
  • Heineken Music All, Amsterdam (Netherlands) - May 20, 2016
  • Heineken Music All, Amsterdam (Netherlands) - May 21, 2016
    • My last gig to date :'(
    • Super fun moment when the support act (Holly Herndon) started and I saw my name on the huge screen - in fact, they just picked the first users tweeting about the RH concert in Amsterdam, and said "Hello to them" :) - see below:

Thom Yorke - solo

  • Latitude Festival, Southwold (England) - July 19, 2009
    • A very famous British festival, with Thom playing solo
    • We got a full show of songs that would later become "Atoms for Peace"
  • Big Chill Festival, Herefordshire (England) - August 6, 2010
    • Yet another (excellent) British festival
  • Olympia Paris, Paris (France) - June 12, 2018
  • Days Off Festival, Paris (France) - July 7, 2019
    • A special venue, with a super nice acoustic

Wrap Up

Writing this article has made me realise why I was missing Radiohead live - in the last 10 years (2010's), I saw them only 6 times, whereas during the 10 previous years, I saw them 14 times!

Let's hope that this whole current situation comes to an end soon, and that we can all go to concerts again!!!

With that, thanks for reading, and as usual, ping me on Twitter if you feel like it!
