1994's Speed and its 3 minutes neverending opening credits

August 26, 2023 — Nico Cartron

These days, we are showing some cool old movies to our eldest son, and yesterday we chose 1994's Speed with Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves.

It's fun to see such movies almost 30 years after their initial release, because not only do you realise how time has flown (jeezz, those computers look super old!), but also you notice some details you hadn't notice back then.

And such is the case with the movie's opening credits: the initial scene takes place in a skyscrapper where the vilain has placed a bomb in a lift, and I guess to "re-enforce" how tall this thing is, we are granted with a 3 minutes vertical traveling of the building, while credits are rolling.

This felt like forever, and my son, who's usually very keen to watch the movies we suggest, started questioning our choice :)

Fortunately, once those credits are over, the movie starts for good and we enjoyed it.

But still, I didn't remember those long credits, and since then, I gind that movies' opening credits are better integrated into the start of movies.
